My commentary

He was never what people hoped and wanted him to be. They wanted what Mussina was -- the ace of a pitching staff. After an excellent debut season in 1990, he never lived up to that "potential," and was regarded as a disappointment. But only once -- 1991 -- was he actually a below average pitcher. Most of the time he was a #2-#3 pitcher. If people would have stopped focusing on what he couldn't do, and what they thought he should do, and had accepted him for what he was, things would have worked out better.
