Have You Been Distracted?

Glenn Reynolds claims that the stories about the false claims from the State of the Union address have been an attempt by "some Democrats and their media allies to distract people."

If you have, indeed, been distracted, I'd like to call the following to your attention: the federal deficit this year is going to be $445 billion.

Some of us are old enough to remember a budget surplus.

And some of us are even older and remember the democrats running up deficit after deficit in their quest for the great welfare state. So since when have the democrats become the party of fiscal responsibility? Or do it detect more than a little hypocrisy here.

Poop:

Republicans are supposed to be the party of low spending and small government, right? Republicans now control the executive and legislative branches, and spending (even ignoring defense and security) has been rising just about as fast as ever. So much for ideology over politicking...

Uhh...

Under Reagan and Bush I --> deficits explode.

Under Clinton --> deficits go to zero (with, absolutely no Republicans voting for the 1993 Deficit Reduction Act)

Under Bush II --> deficits explode. Federal spending up 18%
